The Student's Association of Flinders University, commonly referred to as SAFU, was the student organisation responsible for student advocacy on campus prior to the restructuring of the Flinders uni student organisations in the wake of VSU.

In 2003 SAFU presented itself as the organisation to promote and protect the interests of students at Flinders University. SAFU was seen as the democratic voice of students to the University and the wider community. It also ran a professional advocacy service to defend the academic rights of each individual student.

SAFU was the peak student representative organisation at the University. It was controlled by a Student Council elected each year by and from students at Flinders University. Ordinary students also had a democratic say through general student meetings and referenda.

Office bearers were elected by general student franchise and controlled the day to day running of the Association within guidelines set by the Students' Council and the student body.

The Students' Association had various departments. These included an education department, women's department, Empire Times, student radio, action groups and trading operations (Whole Food shop and printing press).
